Honor Flight Card Night

I'm so grateful for those that helped make over 30 cards last week to give to the veterans for next month's Lake County Honor Flight!  If you're unfamiliar with what the HONOR FLIGHT is...

Lake County Honor Flight celebrates America's veterans with a multi-day trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. The Lake County Honor Flight works diligently to raise funds to make trips available to veterans at no cost!

Paper Crafting Blog Hop Cottage Wreaths

 

Welcome to the Paper Crafting Blog Hop! Our September 2022 blog hop includes Stampin' Up! Independent Demonstrators from around the world...including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia!  Get ready to be wowed by a variety of creative projects and design styles!  You may have arrived from Annettes's Blog...what a great project!

Our projects this month focus on items from the July-December Mini Catalog.  I chose the Cottage Wreaths because it is a great bundle to use during the fall through the end of the year!  Below is the card that I created using the Cottage Wreaths Bundle.  The Designer Series Paper comes from the Annual Catalog....it's called Happy Forest Friends DSP.  My card base is Thick Very Vanilla Cardstock...I always forget that we have the Thick Cardstock in VANILLA too!

To get the autumnal look to the leaves I inked up the wreath in Crushed Curry Ink and then added some Cajun Craze ink with a Sponge Dauber. The wide ribbon is the Natural Finish 7/8" Ribbon and the bow is Linen Thread.  And of course, I had to add my FAVORITE embellishment...some of the gold Adhesive-Backed Seasonal Sequins from the July-December Mini Catalog!

How do you like 'dem apples?

 

More Apple Harvest projects!  This time featuring the Soft Pastels Assortment.  I was inspired by my friend Beth over at Beth's Paper Cuts and her amazing videos on how to color with this somewhat overlooked item from the Annual Catalog.  At just $9 for eight colors, it is a pretty good deal...and until this Wednesday 9/14/2022, they are part of the Weekly Deal, so they're available for a little less.

My trio of apples is perfect for this time of year!  And I just LOVE the chalkboard effect you can get with these Soft Pastels!  I stamped on Basic Black with White Craft ink...it takes a bit longer to dry, but you can speed this up with your heat tool.  Then I used the Soft Pastels to color the apples three different colors.  Just like coloring with watercolor pencils, ink, or Stampin' Blends, layer on different colors to get depth and texture.  With this trio of apples, I used the dies before I colored to cut out an apple to pop up between the two stamped apples on the black layer.

For these next two cards, I grabbed sentiments from a couple of other stamp sets:  Good Feelings and Cottage Rose for some awesome teacher cards.  We don't have to wait until Teacher Appreciation Week in May to thank the teachers in our lives!

These Soft Pastels Assortment feel like chalk...kind of like the pastels from MANY years ago that SU! offered rather than an oil pastel crayon.  One of the things I do love about these is the bold color from the pigment!  You can even use these pastels with a watercolor brush to paint.  Use with sponge daubers to add color or with the "poppin' pastels" technique.  And a quick spritz of hair spray or fixative will set the pastels so they don't rub off.
